Artificial Intelligence (AI) encompasses both a field of scientific and engineering research and the many products of those research endeavors. Here we provide a brief overview of AI, describe some of the technical concepts and terminology underlying AI, and highlight some key aspects of AI's recent explosion in the public consciousness.
Objectives
After you complete this segment, you should be able to:
- Understand generally what the field of AI aims to accomplish
- Describe some of what has led to an explosion of AI in the public's consciousness, and some of the concerns that has generated
- Understand the relationship between the functionality of AI and the implementation of that functionality using tools and techniques from machine learning and deep learning
