This section provides background information on cloud infrastructure "orchestration" tools, and the Terraform orchestration tool in particular. It outlines some benefits of Terraform over OpenStack's own orchestration tool, and defines some terms that will be used repeatedly in other topics of this roadmap.

Objectives

After you complete this topic, you should be able to:

  • Define the term "orchestration" in the context of cloud computing.
  • Explain the meaning of "Infrastructure as Code (IAC)".
  • List some benefits of using an orchestration tool.
  • List some benefits of using Terraform instead of OpenStack's "Heat" orchestration tool when working with Jetstream2.
