Relational databases are based on tables storing rows of columnar data. This segment gives a quick tour of relational databases and describes their basic anatomy and some of the structures used to maintain data consistency and database performance.

Objectives

After you complete this segment, you should be able to:

  • Understand the basic anatomy of a relational database
  • Make sense of relational databases you encounter
  • Appreciate some basic rules for good database performance
Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites other than an interest in the consistent storage of data!
