The PAPI low-level interface allows access to individual hardware events, known in PAPI as "native events." The PAPI low-level interface may also be utilized to detect information about the execution program and processing hardware. It allows the user to customize the behavior of the application when a counter overflow has been detected through a callback mechanism. It is thread-safe and interoperates with the high-level API under most conditions.
