Installing Globus Connect Personal

In order to create a Globus endpoint on your personal computer, the computer needs to be running the Globus Connect Personal application. This application can be installed as part of the process for creating a personal endpoint. Note that on Linux computers Globus Connect Personal depends on additional libraries that may need to be installed as part of its setup. The endpoint creation process will be similar regardless of the operating system type.

Begin the process on the computer where you would like to create an endpoint. Log on to Globus and visit the Globus Personal Endpoint web page. Click the link for your type of operating system and then follow the instructions to install the software. If you are installing the software for the first time, when the installer finishes it will walk you through some "set up" steps, which may open up pages in your web browser and ask you to log in again.

Depending on your operating system type, a configuration UI may be available for Globus Connect Personal that allows you to set preferences and specify which of your system's directories and files are accessible through the endpoint. The page linked above will contain information about the configuration options.

You can also control some properties of an endpoint through the Globus web interface. For information about configuring a personal endpoint, such as how to make it public or change its name, see Configuring a Personal Endpoint.

Additional endpoints can be created on any number of personal computers by following this same process, but using different endpoint names. Only one endpoint can be associated with a given computer. Note that while the Globus Connect Personal software can be stopped and restarted, it must be actively running on a computer whenever you attempt to reach the endpoint for that computer.
