Openstack vs Exosphere
Openstack and Horizon
Jetstream2 is built upon cloud infrastructure from Openstack. Openstack includes a web interface (or "dashboard") component called Horizon. Horizon is powerful and provides access to many of the features in Openstack, but it requires the user to be responsible for all aspects of their work in the cloud.
- Experienced engineers and those with uncommon needs can visit https://js2.jetstream-cloud.org to use Horizon.
- Documentation for Jetstream2's Horizon dashboard is available.
Exosphere
For users and with more typical needs or less cloud-computing experience, the benefits of using Horizon may be limited while the responsibility to "do everything yourself" remains. To give those users a more appropriate interface, Jetstream2 provides an alternative, the Exosphere web dashboard. Exosphere takes care of many of the small details of "standing up" virtual computers in the cloud so you don't have to, and is easier to learn than Horizon.
- It is Exosphere that is described in this topic and other topics in the roadmap.
- Visit https://jetstream2.exosphere.app to use Exosphere.
- Documentation for Jetstream2's Exosphere dashboard is available.
