ParaView's user interface is organized to allow you to build up the "visualization pipelines" that produce images and animations. Separate UI components deal with these aspects of the visualization pipeline and its nodes:

  • Specifying the structure of the pipeline
  • Viewing information about the selected node of the pipeline
  • Setting property values for the selected node of the pipeline
  • Setting property values to control how the pipeline output is displayed
  • Rendering the pipeline output into one or more views
Objectives

After you complete this segment, you should be able to:

  • Explain how a visualization pipeline produces a visualization
  • List a pipline node's components
  • Name the geometric locations found in data sources
  • List the major elements of the ParaView user interface
  • Explain common operations that can be performed through the UI
  • Demonstrate adding data to a visualization pipeline
  • Demonstrate accessing the Information Panel tab
  • List the three sections of the Properties tab
  • Demonstrate modifying a rendered image using the Properties panel
  • Name two methods for creating multiple views of a current visualization pipeline
Prerequisites

To follow along with the example in this section, you must download the lastest version of ParaView and install it.
