If you have an institutional login for Globus, then a Globus ID is not required. If you do not have an institutional login for Globus, then you will need to create an Globus ID to perform data transfers. A Globus ID is also required in order to perform Globus transfers through the Command Line Interface (CLI), which is the mechanism for performing transfers from within scripts (see Advanced Globus Transfer).

Create a Globus ID

You can create a Globus ID using this form, which will requires you to enter a valid email address. When you click "Create ID" at the end of the form, another web page will ask you to provide the verification code that has been sent to the email address you used.

Once the email verification is complete, Globus will offer you the opportunity to link this new Globus ID to an existing institutional login. You can decline this offer, as accounts can be linked at a later time. And it can be advantageous to perform the linking in the other direction, from your institutional account to your Globus ID. For more information, see Linking Accounts.
